Course Description
Human trafficking is a worldwide modern day slavery issue that affects over 43 million people. The majority of people that are trafficked are women and children, boys and girls. These victims/survivors are forced into slave labor, sexual abuse and other forms of trafficking. Victims frequently do not seek help due to language barriers, fear of their traffickers, or fear of law enforcement. Because of this, most US states, including Michigan, are unable to provide an accurate accounting of just how many people have actually been trafficked. The numbers are exponentially larger than what's currently being reported. In this course, various aspects of trafficking will be shared including the scope and what is (and what is not) being done and how social workers can provide much needed services.
