Course Description

“Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other’s eyes for an instant?”
– Henry David Thoreau

No matter what role we fill in life: parent, spouse, boss, employee, friend, co-worker, peer, etc., we should be cognizant of how our words and actions affect others. We may believe we are being inclusive and treating people with respect, but unconsciously we may not be.

Awareness is key and this is the first step in learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will talk about what this means along with implicit bias, family of origin, and what lens we view the world. Be ready to participate in some exercises of self-reflection.

The goal is to start the conversation of what DEI is and how it is important to understand these concepts when interacting with people. It is also important to understand these concepts if making decisions that will affect other people or working on tasks or projects centered around people. Hopefully, you will leave this course with a better understanding of how to look through another's eyes if for just an instant.
